The tranny was making a high pitch whiny noise this morning until the car got to operating temp. Was really annoying me, should i be worried or not so much?

Cold tranny = excess gear noise. Its normal, It never hurts to change your gear oil on a regular basis.

I agree check the fluid level. and it might not hurt to change it if it has more than 15,000 miles on it.

This is the most polite you could ever be to a newb.
Speaking of trans whine, I have a story. At the Winged Warrior II event in Indy they had this Monster AutoX course with a back slalom were you could hit about 60+mph. It was all at an airport, however they failed to tell us what the surface was like at the end of the runway. So after flying through the slalom you hit the brakes and start costing and all you hear is REALLY loud humming, imagine driving a car at 40 in reverse, that much gear noise. My stomach sank and that was probably the worst feeling ever while driving my Neon. it ended up just being the tarmac surface, I guess it has ridges in it and makes your tires ultra loud.
Long story short, trans problems suck.

could it be a bad kick down linkage or a pluged intermediate hydraulic line?

Ive had it for about 13k miles. Went to the dealer for tranny work and they never mentioned anything about this.

Of course they didn't. You'd look at them silly if they told you that the diesel TRUCK transmission in your SRT was supposed to be noisy.
