View Full Version : SRT-4 Suggested Build Paths

After the "Turbo..." thread and countless others of people asking for suggested upgrade paths, I figure we could make a thread that will be the one-stop-shop to answer these questions.

Now before reading this and following any of the setups, please consider that not all of these paths have been tested. This thread also is not to argue who's setup is better than someone else.

There are countless combination's and each one has different methods of achieving the drivers goals.

When suggesting a method please offer all information you can so there wont be any questions. What kind of style racing the setup is for, around what HP/TQ the driver could expect. Also if you can please try to add cost in your builds.

I will link all quality builds in the main post.

Mild to Extreme Stock Turbo Build path

1. Dogbone Engine Mounts (Otherwise your next few purchases will be axels)
2. 3 in Exhaust and 02 housing.
3. UEGO Sensor
4. WGA (If you can tune it correctly you don't need a MBC. When you tune it make sure you never go higher than 12.0 at WOT. Most people say 12.5 but I would say stay on the safe side.)
5. Return Line Kit & Mapclamp (Must get these two together. I would prefer an SAFC or DTEC over a mapclamp, but those are costly. Also if money is not an issue an AEM EMS would be your best option.)
--------Fuel is take care of lets move onto moving air--------
7. CAI or K&N Drop in (There's a lot of debate about if CAI are better than just a drop in K&N intake, personally I don't think you need a CAI if you are staying stock turbo)
8. Pressue pipe with real blow off valve and stock turbo block-off plate.
9. 60mm Throttle Body (Wont really effect max hp but will make a huge deal on the low end and mid range.
10. FMIC (Find a decent one that direct fits, don't need the AGP race or any other huge ones.)
11. Walbro 255 fuel pump. (This may not be needed at this point, but if you're going to go extreme with boost, like I said, always good to have more fuel.
12. Turn up the boost and have some fun.
--------If that still doesn't make you happy--------
13. Extrude Honed Intake manifold
14. Ported stock exhaust manifold
15. Ported stock turbo (For this you could also get an option with a bigger wheel for more power)
16. Ported Cylinder Head with 1mm oversized valves & Cam (For this I'd suggest a Crower Stage 2 or a Crane 12 cam. If you plan on going bigger turbo perhaps get a Crane 16 cam, but if you want to play with nitrous get the 12.)

I don't know what planet I was on when you initially made this thread....It is a great Idea.

I'm not surprised though...you (scott) are one of the few people that I listen to when it comes to the SRT-4

A REAL low to mid 12 build path….

1. AEM UEGO
2. AGP WGA
3. 3” catless exhaust or dump
4. Return line
5. Map clamp or piggy back
6. W/I with a M5 nozzle
7. Solid Motor AND trans mount
8. 24.5x8x15 slicks
9. Stock plugs gapped to .32-.35

That’s it folks….buy these items and tune to 12.3-12.5 A/F’s on race gas and you’ll be moving. I guarantee it. How do I know? I've seen this setup run 12.29 and countless sub 12.5 passes with my own eyes. Traps range anywhere from 110-115.

I have purposly left prices out because it all depends on if you want new or used parts. I can say with confidence that this should cost you no more than $2000 (A LOT cheaper if you shop around and watch the F/S threads)

Not the prettiest setup out there, but you’ll sure as shit scare some unsuspecting Cobra owners on the street.

If you need more power then you can add FMIC, 60mm throttle body, E1 (or E2), realtune ported manifold and tial external wastegate, boost controller, STS. Boosting 24psi. Then add a ported intake manifold, ported heads heads, etc...if your still not happy. Even a bigger turbo.

did you ever break 12's with your cobra?

I added prices to give the n00bs some idea of how much shit costs. I was talking to Sean yesterday and he didnt even know about any forums or anything when he first got his car and was shopping on ebay for parts, I am sure he's not the only one.

Also thats a lot of parts that are listed by Miska.

I have maybe 30% of those parts and no LSD

I refixed it.

You forgot to add, putting your car at "race" weight.

Everything out of the car minus driver seat and driver. And never by anymeans leave any tools in it. That is an easy .5-.6 of sec and about 5mph loss in the 1/4.

What does this setup run full weight, on pump gas, on street tires? The world may never know.

No i think it is an important part of the formula. People will think with that setup they will run near your times(you got the driver mod as well) and they need to know.
